YEARS OF SERVICE

The Story:

I Wasn’t Planning To Be Here

What began as concern became curiosity.

What became curiosity became hope.

I wasn’t planning to run for office. I was raising my son, helping clients, coaching kids, caring for my parents, and serving my community.

Then people encouraged me to get involved.

As The Coach

In paddling, I learned I didn’t have to be the best paddler.

If I could help eight paddlers become 5% better together, the canoe became dramatically faster.

Leadership isn’t about being the star.

It’s about helping others succeed.

As The Firefighter

When I joined the Fire Department, I laughed during introductions.

We were all team captains, athletes, business owners, fraternity presidents, and leaders in our own right.

The challenge wasn’t finding leaders.

The challenge was becoming a team.

As The Father

After losing my wife and raising my son, I learned that hope matters.

Family matters.

Community matters.

As The Community Builder in Business

Kihei Compost taught me that healthy soil, healthy water, healthy reefs, healthy farms, and healthy communities are all connected.

Good ideas must also work in the real world.

The Optimist

I believe Maui’s greatest resource is its people.

I believe there is usually a way.

I believe in bringing people together to remove obstacles and unlock potential.

.

There's a way, let's find it together.

HOPE MATTERS
"He Who has Health has Hope, He who has Hope has Everything"

One of the hardest lessons of my life came from losing my wife when my son just turned 3.

Anyone who has experienced profound loss understands that there are moments when hope feels very far away.

There are seasons when you are simply trying to get through the day.

Raising my son without his mother taught me things no book ever could.

It taught me gratitude.

It taught me resilience.

It taught me the importance of family, friends, and community.

Most of all, it taught me the value of hope.

Not the kind of hope that ignores reality.

The kind of hope that helps you move forward despite it.

That experience changed me.

It deepened my appreciation for every day, every friendship, every opportunity to serve, and every chance to help someone else through a difficult time.

Today, when I think about Maui’s challenges, I don’t start with fear.

I start with hope.

Because I know what it feels like to lose it.

And I know what it feels like to find it again.

I am blessed beyond measure.

Not because life has been easy.

But because I have experienced the strength of family, community, faith, friendship, and service.

That is why I believe hope matters.

And why I believe helping people find hope again may be one of the most important things we can do

for one another.

 Do What is Right.

"He Who has Health has Hope, He who has Hope has Everything"

SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Under Construction FROM THE COMMUNITY

I have known JB for 15 years, and I can confidently say he is one of the most genuine, hardworking, and dedicated people in our community. Born and raised in Maui he understands our local values because he has lived them his entire life. His family’s well-known local business (The Pet Shop) has long been a part of our community, teaching him the importance of service, hard work, and giving back to others. After the heartbreaking loss of his wife, he faced one of life’s greatest challenges with courage, strength, and determination. Through adversity, JB continued to be a devoted father, demonstrating the resilience and character that define who he is today. Throughout his career as a firefighter, he dedicated himself to protecting and serving our community. Even in retirement, his commitment to helping others continues through his work as a realtor, where he assists local families in achieving their dreams of homeownership. What sets JB apart is his passion for positive change. He is fiery when it comes to standing up for what he believes is right, yet always genuine in his intentions and positive in his vision for the future. He cares deeply about our community, our families, and the opportunities we leave for the next generation. I wholeheartedly support JB because I know he will bring integrity, experience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to public service. He isn’t running for himself—he’s running to create a better future for all of us and for our children. Our community deserves a leader who understands our challenges, values our traditions, and is willing to fight for meaningful progress. That leader is bradda JB.

What's up, everybody? My name is Joel Bouhey and I fully support JB guard. I know him through Jiu-Jitsu, he was one of my students and one of my training partners for a long time, a very trustworthy individual, everybody up country knows JB loves him his whole family. Amazing people, somebody I definitely trust and I'm proud to give this testimonial supporting him. Thank you.

Hello, my name is Kekoa Cramer.
I've known JB Guard for over 30 plus years, I endorse him for him, running for County Council. I think it's a great idea. It takes a lot of B@#$s ( grit) and a lot of effort to do what he's doing. JB has always stood up for the community and has best interest in the island and all the people who are from here, and who lived here a long time as well.  He is looking for better ways to keep the people here, JB is very smart. I know JB through paddling in the ocean. Great, father.
Great leader.  Has helped me out whenever I needed it and I feel like he's going to do the same for the community. So right on JB, good job, supporting 100%, hope all goes. Well, Aloha
